Hello lovelies! So happy to be back on track with a weekly post for you.
We’ve had a lot going on in our house these last few weeks and if I’m being honest, most of it was illness related. It seems a nasty bug or cold made its way through the entire household, even the dog had a runny nose at one point. I think we’re all feeling much much better and, lo and behold, even the sun decided to come out today! It’s been weeks with little to no sunshine and it’s had a real affect on our moods and energy levels.
This morning we were at the hockey arena bright and early to watch our favourite eight year old play. As I was looking around, I really noticed that it’s a whole new generation of parents and players out there. At one time, when both my boys were heavily involved in the hockey scene, we would’ve known or been acquainted with most of the parents in the arena. Now, it’s my daughter’s generation who are there with their kids.
I remember those days so well. And there were times I secretly cursed the game and loss of my weekends because it seemed like we lived and breathed hockey. All. Year. Round.
Weekend tournaments, team meals and extra ice time.
Driving 3 hours to a game and then hearing, Mom I forgot my stick.
Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!
Offffffside Ref!
High fives, so much pride and many quiet drives home after a tough loss.
Let’s not forget the smell. There’s nothing quite like it.
I kind of got sad for those times this morning. A longing for those weekends that allowed us to connect in a way that didn’t happen at home. I loved watching them skate over to the goalie and tap his pads with their sticks to say, you’re doing awesome! Or those game winning goals that felt so so good. We always had such a great group of parents and made some life long friendships from those times.
Looking back, I now realize that spending time cheering at the arena gave me some of the greatest memories I have with my sons. And I really took for granted how much I would miss those days! Now I get to live a little bit of that through my daughter and grandson again, as they start a whole new generation of players in the sports scene.
I don’t have to watch him play hockey every weekend. I get to watch him play.
Lucky me.
I’m off to the arena again, happy week friends!

I’ve recently been seeing posts where folks are adding cottage cheese to their scrambled eggs to bump up the protein content. Also, it makes eggs a little extra creamy with a slight cheesy flavour. So I had a brilliant idea to add it to my quiche recipe for meal prep. Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s darn tasty. If you’re worried about texture you can blend the cottage cheese first.
