Happy May friends! How can it be May already?!
Spring has just exploded around here. Last weekend I swear there were no leaves on the trees and this morning as I’m sitting here I can see nothing but green.
So, see? This is where all that rain has come in handy. It’s given me this awesome view that I love and appreciate so much.
Very soon the bush beside us will have fully bloomed and we won’t be able to see our neighbours house anymore. Truth be told, they probably really look forward to this part of the year when they can go outside without Suri barking at them like a lunatic.
In other news, earlier this week I went to a fundraising event with a few ladies I’ve worked with (and happily call friends) for many years. It’s an annual event, called Runway of Stars, that matches up a person with a disability with someone in our community for a fashion show evening. They play their favourite music and strut down the runway with a new friend to raise funds for the developmental services in our area. The hall was packed with colleagues and families I have worked with over the years.
Full disclosure though, after a very long work day I sort of dreaded a late evening out. I was plotting my early departure even as I was driving there. I’ve been people-ing all day I kept telling myself, I just want to hide in my house with a good book now. Even as the night started I was joking (but really not joking) with the ladies at my table that I was usually in my pajamas at this hour (this hour being 8pm).
But man, what a good time we had. The whole room was just buzzing with happiness, it’s almost hard to describe. It was such a great evening to connect with folks and see some of the students I’ve worked with over the years, who are just awesome young adults working in the community. That was honestly the best part for me. And I totally needed that boost of fun and inspiration that some of these kids have given me over the years. Many of them have a very special place in my heart and I consider them to be like family. And after almost 30 years in education, with all of the changes we’ve seen in our classrooms lately, I can forget why I have loved this career path so much sometimes.
But it’s because of these moments. Because of those smiles. Because of how very authentic they are. I’m smiling again just thinking about it.
And, guess who stayed till the very last song, standing and cheering and clapping as loud as I could?
This gal.
Those feel good feelings kept me going all day long the next day. How awesome is that?
Anyways, today I’m going to have a coffee with my dad and then get outside and get my hands dirty. And after a day in the sun I’ll have those same feel good feelings about this place I get to call home.
Ahhhh life is good friends.
Have a good week.

P.S guess what?! I heard you loud and clear about wanting to print recipes! I’ll be including a PDF download of my recipes each week for you so that you can download and print. I’ll try to go back each week and update a previous post to add the download version.
This salad hits on all levels for me. Super tasty dressing. Crunchy parts. Creamy parts. Perfect for meal prep. And so fresh! I love eating this slightly warm. Yum. It’s also a total rockstar for your daily fiber requirements at a whopping 13 gr per serving.
